It writes differently for chat than it does for a terminal
You pick a mode — nothing detects it, because a web page cannot see what else is open on your computer and we will not pretend otherwise. The mode decides capitalisation, whether a full stop gets added, whether “comma” becomes a comma, whether filler comes out and which dictionary applies. These are rules you can read and switch off one at a time, not a model rewriting your sentence — and the words you actually said are always kept.

That frame is the product, not a video of it: the same component /app renders, with its history switched off. What you get for $29 is that, plus a history in your browser and the offline download. It runs whisper-tiny.en — the small English model — and that page is served with a policy that forbids it to contact anywhere but this site. Pressing the button downloads the model from here first — about 67 MB, once — and after that the network tab stays empty however much you say into it, which is the thing worth watching.
Where it won't work
Every one of these is on this page rather than in a support reply after you have paid.
- It types into saidit's own pad, not into your other apps. A web page cannot send keystrokes to Slack, Mail or your editor — no browser allows it — so the finished text goes to the pad, your clipboard, a file, or the share sheet, and you paste it the last inch yourself.
- The push-to-talk key only works while this tab is in front. There is no system-wide hotkey in a browser, and nothing here can listen while you are in another window.
- English only. The model we ship is an English one, and we would rather say so than claim nine languages badly.
- The model is about 67 MB and downloads once, from this site. Until it is on your device dictation needs a connection; afterwards the whole app runs with the network off.
- Working out what you said happens on your device, so the tab goes still for a few seconds while it runs — longer on a phone or an old laptop, and longer for a long dictation.
- Recording stops on its own at two minutes. Anything already recorded is still transcribed; nothing gets thrown away.
- Your dictations, your dictionary and your modes are saved in this browser on this device. Nothing about them needs an account, there is no sync and there is no copy of any of it on our servers — which also means clearing this browser's data clears them, and a second computer starts empty. Download a backup file and you can carry them to either.
- It needs a microphone and a browser with WebAssembly. Where either is missing the app says so and the typed lane still runs every rule.
And the promise itself, stated exactly: your voice never leaves this device. Not “saidit never touches the internet” — that would be false. Here is the complete list of what it does send:

Audio and transcripts are on neither line, and there is no sync — not as a missing feature, as a refusal. A synced dictation history is a log of everything you have ever said sitting in a database. The trade is real and it is yours to know about: your history lives in one browser on one computer, so clearing that browser clears it and a second machine starts empty.

We will never quote an accuracy number, because nobody can honour one: speech recognition is worse on a bad microphone, in a noisy room, and with an accent the model saw little of. It also hallucinates on near-silence, which is why anything under about a third of a second is not transcribed at all. Filler removal, capitalisation, punctuation and dictionary replacements are edits we make to what you said — every one is listed, every one has an off switch, and the raw transcript is one click away. If the text cannot be copied, saved or shared for you, saidit shows it to you and names the reason; you already said the words and we will not lose them. Once we start charging, the app confirms your licence and then runs offline for 14 days between checks — stay offline longer and it asks you to reconnect once, with nothing expired and nothing owed.
